Our journey to becoming the Uni-Norths Owls Juniors is, as you would expect, intrinsically linked to senior clubs.
Uni-Norths Junior Rugby can trace its origins back to the Under 18s team fielded by the Northern Suburbs Rugby Union in the 1946 competition. An under 17s team followed in 1947 and today we boast several teams across the Under 7s to Under 18s age groups.
Over the years, our passionate staff of volunteers have helped guide, coach and develop young players to reach their full potential on and off the pitch.
Many former Owls have gone on to playing for Super Rugby Teams such as ACT Brumbies and even nationally for the Wallabies and Wallaroos.
Together we hope to create a safe, inclusive and positive environment where young people can get the very best out of their rugby experience.
Many of our young players progress through our program to then go on and play for the Uni-Norths Senior Rugby Union club and beyond.
Similarly, many of the senior players are involved in coaching and joint training for our U16s and U18s Players.
This provides a clear pathway from junior rugby into our senior club.
We're a jolly bunch of players and each one is a star, and if you want to join us you'll find us at the park. And if you want to join us you'll find that we're alright! 'Cause we are the Owls of the mighty Uni-Norths.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, keep your eye on the mighty Owls!
Uni-Norths! Hoot Hoot!
As a solely volunteer run club, we are always on the lookout and very grateful for new volunteers who are keen to help kids get into the fantastic sport of Rugby Union. At Uni-Norths JRU we aim to provide a safe and inclusive environment for every single person involved with the club. Therefore there are a few key steps needed if you would like to become a working part of the club:
All coaches, managers and other club officials at Uni-Norths JRU are required by ACT and NSW legislation to hold a valid Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) clearance.
The ACTJRU has advised that it is possible that ACT Government will perform spot checks at club events and significant fines can be imposed for people who do not hold a WWVP card. If you are considering coaching or taking up another role within the club then you must complete this step.
To obtain a WWVP Card, you will need to:
There is no cost ($0) for volunteers and the we have been advised the process takes about 6-8 weeks.
